The Fondation Baur, Museum of Far Eastern Art, and the Musée Barbier-Mueller, have endeavoured through their exhibitions and numerous collaborations to present various facets of non-European civilizations and peoples. The Fondation Baur is pleased to associate itself with the fortieth anniversary célébrations of the Musée Barbier-Mueller in 2017, and to welcome its prestigious bronzes from the protohistoric Dong Son culture of North Vietnam. This thriving culture, located in the Red River Delta from the seventh century BC to the second century AD, found expression in a great diversity of bronze ritual objects, weapons and jewellery, often decorated with human, animal or geometrical motifs. Subsequent Chinese expansion into the area did not immediately eradicate this heritage, and bronzes continued to be decorated with continuous friezes of abstract motifs and figurative scenes.
